The Portfolio of Bill Sprau

Fine Art

Fine art training is where my training and education began. In this section you will find samples from my fine art portfolio.

Painting is the truest form of self expression. There is no right or wrong solution, only the one your heart feels. A blank canvas is one of the most exciting propositions for an artistic mind and inspiration can come from virtually anywhere. Art exists in everything and needs only to be released by those who choose to express it.

I will happily use any medium when creating, as some mediums lend themselves better to certain projects. However, my preferred medium is oil paint. There is something magical about the texture, smell and colors achieved by using oils. It is true that the method is older, and some say harder, but I truly believe, like all things in life, achieving something worthwhile is never easy. The entire journey should be enjoyable, not just the finished product.

  • Dog Portraits   ( 0 Articles )

A few years ago, a special family friend passed away. That friend was furry and had four legs but was deeply missed. Immediately, the idea to try and forever capture his essence in a portrait came to mind. Since then, it has been a rewarding experience to combine a love of dogs and a love of painting.

These portraits are hand painted in oils (many people scan pictures, put a digital filter on it and print it directly on canvas—this is not the case here).  This is your best friend captured in an actual oil painting.
